Tony Stark/Iron Man Appearances

The Evolution Of Tony Stark
Tony Stark first appeared in cinemas as a man for himself. He followed in his fathers (Howard Stark) footsteps as a weapons manufacturer. In the beginning Tony Stark is a cocky genius using his intellect to further his social and financial standing. After some time being held in captivity (see Iron Man review) we see a change in Stark as he enters in to battle with people that want to bring harm to others. This remains consistent up until Avengers Assemble where Stark carries a nuclear weapon in to space on a mission that is certain to be one way. Following the events of Avengers Assemble Tony starts on a downward spiral after learning that there are far more greater evils in the universe than he can overcome. Tony takes matters into his own hands in Avengers: Age of Ultron where he creates an AI with Bruce Banner in the hope that they can use it to protect the Earth when the Avengers cannot. The AI in question becomes Ulton - the main antagonist in Age of Ultron and represents a defeat of Stark's superior intellect. This could be seen as the character going full circle and returning to manufacturing weapons. The upcoming Captain America: Civil War is a well known story from the 2006 comic and as many will be aware casts Tony Stark as a threat to civil liberties supporting the Superhero Registration Act (strongly presumed to be the Accords mentioned by Steve Rogers during the post credits Ant-Man scene) and sees him go up against Steve Rogers/Captain America and his allies. It is interesting to see this evolution as it cleverly shows that the character could be seen as the antagonist in Captain America: Civil War. Although we presume that the MCU will not make Iron Man an out and out villain it will muddy the waters making for more interesting viewing. The most well received villain in the MCU has been Loki and we strongly feel this is in part due to the conflicted nature of the character (also the strong representation of Loki by Tom Hiddleston). Could we see Iron Man as a villain, we would love to see it.
