So after a Doctor Strange mention in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and rumours that Stephen Strange will somehow play a part in Civil War we will finally get to see a Doctor Strange movie on November 4th 2016 being the 2nd release in the MCU for 2016.

What do we know so far?

We know that the titular character will be played by Benedict Cumberbatch of Sherlock and Star Trek fame. Rumours were circulating that Tilda Swinton would be portay the ancient one which is now official. We know the comic book story of Stephen Strange, an arrogant but brilliant neurosurgeon's hands get damaged in a car accident and resorting to desperate measures he turns to magic in an attempt to heal himself. This leads him to eventually become Earth's protector. Ant-Man was the final movie in the MCU's phase two movies and it felt like a seamless segway. The quantum realm scenes in Ant-Man really set the tone for things to come so expect phase tree to be way out there which is a good thing, we are talking about coomic book movies after all and who wants realism in a comic book movie.

Scott Derickson, best known for horror movies such as Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose will be in the directors chair with script duties going to Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, who have written such films such as 2005's Sahara and 2011's Conan the Barbarian (let's trust Kevin Feige on that one shall we).

Kevin Feige has made some announcements on he upcoming movie and has promised that Doctor Strange will radically change the MCU by introducing "a whole other side" of the comic source material.

He has also said "We've done the street-level heroes, and we've done the billionaire superheroes," Feige said last year. "We've now done the cosmic side with Thor and Avengers and most obviously with [Guardians], but there's a whole other side of the Marvel comics, which is that supernatural side - the inter-dimensional side of the Marvel universe.

"Doctor Strange is, I believe, our entry point into that other realm, which has dozens of characters and storylines all of its own."

So given that the movie will be with us in just over a year details are fairly light but we're looking forward to this one and we'll keep you posted.

Check out this fan made trailer I found on comicbookmovie.com. It is short and uses dialogue from other movies but could easily pass off as a teaser trailer which shows the origins of Doctor Strange. The track you can hear in the background is a rendition of The Doors - People are Stange which I think you'll agree fits both the tone and the title of the movie. If only comic books could have a soundtrack too.....

Doctor Strange Movie Casting Rumours

Tilda Swinton in Marvels Doctor Strange

Tilda Swinton is rumoured to play Ancient One in Scott Derrickson's upcoming Doctor Strange. Fans of the comics may know that Ancient One is of Tibetan origin and is over 500 years old. A master to Stephen Strange's master the character is traditionally male. The fact that casting is leaning towards a female in the role is further identication that the Marvel studio is looking for diversity.

Tilda Swinton's previous films include The Grand Budapest Hotel, Chronicles or Narnia and The Zero Theorem. If negotiations go well Doctor Strange could add a strong new player to its cast.
