Spider-Man Movie News
Probably the most talked about character is the Marvel Universe is Spider-Man. When news broke of a deal between Sony and Marvel meaning the MCU could include Spidey in their movies fans went crazy. Kevin Feige has explained that he would like a teenage Spider-Man so that they can explore his high school adventures in more detail than the previous movies. We will get a Spider-Man stand alone film as early as July 2017 but the character is now confirmed as part of Captain America: Civil War.

New Spider-Man Solo Movie Definitely Not Origin Story

Ever since the Sony/Marvel Spider-Man deal was confirmed we have been told that we will not get another origin story. Just as well really as both Sam Raimi and Marc Webb's versions show us how Spidey came to be. Not so this time. Writers for the 2017 solo adventure (John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein) confirmed on The Andy Greenwald Podcast. "I think that everybody feels like you know he got bit by a spider and you know Uncle Ben died, and we probably don’t need to revisit that", said Goldstein.
Goldstein went on to say
"I think it’ll be a fun departure from the Peter Parker you’ve seen", said Daley, "where now he is truly a kid and I think the stakes are increased in that his struggle through high school is very real and isn’t just a sort of side note. It matters now".
"We want to explore the fact that just because you get superpowers doesn’t make you into a really sophisticated, successful adult. He’s still a kid and he’s clumsy and he’s a geek and he’s a bit of an outcast, and in many ways the superpowers amplify that and exacerbate his trying to fit in", added Goldstein.
So there you have it. No origin story and a high school Peter Parker just as we suspected. At least the first Spider-Man movie in the MCU wont be shackled with the burden of yet another Spider-Man origin.
Spider-Man will be released July 28th 2017.

Sony and Marvel Have Found Their New Spider-Man

After an announcement earlier in the year that Spider-Man would be joining the MCU, casting rumours have been all over the internet. Finally after lots of meetings, interviews and discussion an official post of marvel.com has revealed the next actor to play the web-slinger will be Tom Holland. Following thef trend of casting British actors Holland is from Surrey in the UK and impressed studio execs with his turn in The Impossible and upcoming In The Heart of The Sea. It was assumed for a while that Asa Butterfield of Ender's game would get the role but when that fell through three actors were being mooted. As it turns Spidey will be played by Tom Holland and is set for a solo movie release in 2017. This may not be Spider-Man's first appearance in the MCU however, it has long since been discussed that Spidey will appear in Captain America: Civil War (due for a release 29th April 2016), although nothing is confirmed. The standalone movie will be shown in IMAX and 3D with a release date of 28th July 2017.
That's not the only news, we have a new director named for the project too. Jon Watts directed Kevin Bacon in upcoming movie Cop Car and has a string of shorts and TV movies to his name, including a hilarious movie titled 'Our RoboCop Remake' (fans of the origional check this out immediately).
So that's it, we have a director and we have an actor. Stay tuned to see if we get to see Holland in Civil War.

Spider-Man Movie Casting Rumours
Since news broke of Spider-Man's inclusion in the MCU it seems that Sony and Marvel are having trouble agreeing on who to cast in the role. With The Walking Dead's Chandler Riggs out of the running and Ender's Game star Asa Butterfield no longer in contention there are three potential actors left in the fray.
-
Tom Holland - A 19 year-old English actor. Holland is best known for his role in 2012’s The Impossible and also has a part in Ron Howard’s upcoming film, In the Heart of the Sea.
-
Charlie Plummer - A 15 year-old American actor. Plummer starred in the series Boardwalk Empire and Granite Flats.
-
Matthew Lintz: A 14 year-old American actor. Lintz is best known for Kill the Messenger and his upcoming part in Pixels.
At this stage it is unkown who will take to the web. Previous favourite Asa Butterfield is no longer part of the equation leaving the door wide open to any of the three. Given that Spidey is likely to feature in Captain America: Civil War we should know soon. Watch this space.

Spider-Man Movie Casting Rumours
The latest gossip to hit he rumour mill is the potential casting of Matthew McConaughey. McConaughey has had massive success of late with movies like Dallas Buyers Club and his short but unforgettable role as Mark Hanna in The Wolf of Wall Street and it comes as no suprise that the comic book movie universe is looking to convice the actor of signing on. McConaughey indicated that he was open to joining the Marvel or DC shared movie universe if the right role (and script came along).
The Hashtag show has provided some accurate news in the past with the reveal of the new Avengers line up at the end of Age of Ultron and the fate of Quicksilver's character in the movie so the source is certainly as good as any. In their report they suggest that McConaughey is eyeing up the role of Norman Osborne. A character like Osborn is a good fit for the actor - he can explore the emotional dichotomy and we are confident he would knock it out of the park. The actor has previously stated;
“It’s very simple for me. I look at the script. Is the opportunity exciting? Is the money that comes with it exciting? Sure. Is it the possibility of going, ‘Hey you can get on a train and it can be a franchise and you could do 3, 4, 5, and have a great time as some kind of superhero or anti-hero.’
But I would also look at something like that and say, ‘Hey, in success that means you are on the train for a while.' Contractually, you’re going to return to the character over and over. It’s something I asked myself is it something I’d want to return to. Would I be excited to go back and put the shoes on the character again? Going and doing the press tour with that group of people again? I always ask myself those questions again. It starts with the story and character.”
So it sounds like McConaughey is certainly open to the idea if the right role came along and we couldn't think of a better character than Norman Osborn. Check out the video from schmoesknow below.

Asa Butterfield as Peter Parker in Spider-Man
Ender's Game star Asa Butterfield is current favourite to take on the role as Peter Parker. Sources have suggested Butterfield is top of the list which makes sense. Kevin Feige has long mooted his opinion that Parker should be a teenager in the MCU so that we can explore his high school adventures. The 18 year old star of Hugo and Ender's Game has the acting chops and youth needed to satisfy fans. It's refreshing to hear the MCU moving in this direction. Both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were older than the character they played which meant we didn't get to see much of them in high school. Both takes on Spider-Man's origin story spent little time in Parker's high school phase which is a shame. There are a significant amount of story arcs available from the comics in Spidey's high school era.
It's all but confirmed that Peter Parker will feature in the Russo Brothers Captain America: Civil War which will spare us from another Spider-Man origin story. At this stage we don't need another one and Civil War seems like the perfect way to introduce the character. Check out the video below from schmoesknow below.
